For the rest I'm doing fine. At last I can enjoy a week of November vacation - very much longed for by all of the colleagues at the school where I work. I'm very glad not to have caught any cold so far. This and the lovely mild weather have allowed me to go to Brussels by bike the last six Fridays. I teach a group of EU-commission interpretors there. I start off at 6:30 and arrive two hours later. The first 2/3 of the trip goes through nature. The last 1/3 is more noisy, going from Tervuren to Brussels along the Tervurenlaan. Luckily the place where I have to be for my teaching is in the eastern part of Brussels, so I don't have to bike too much through the centre. I also have found some alternative smaller streets which allows me to avoid the really crazy places like the round point of Montgomery.
A big thank you to Max who helped me to install my lamps today - without them you couldn't see what you see now on the photos! My flat is slowly being transformed into a home. I love it! I need it!

Look at this hard-working man. He and his colleague did a great job last Thursday installing new windows in my flat. So now the aluminium framed one-glass windows are gone and lovely double glass pvc-framed ones are henceforth the ones who give me my lovely view of the sky, Leuven, the university library and the weather. For the rest I'm doing rather fine. The Summer ended in flat-renovating frenzy which was suddenly transformed into teaching frenzy. Now I'm looking forward to a hopefully not to frenzic week of November holidays, although work in the flat is definitely also a part of the program. Apart from a small visit in Babelom (outside the very well-known beer-village Hoegaarden) at a friend's, plus a trip to Holland for a funeral of the father of a friend, I am going to stay here.
I'm very glad to be healthy and not having caught any kind of cold so far. This and the wonderful weather have allowed me to go by bike from Leuven to Brussels the last 6 Fridays (to teach my lovely little group of EU-commission interpreters learning Swedish). That's about 30 + 30 kilometres - enough to keep me somewhat fit and energetic. And I'm very glad to not have to take the train, being continually disturbed by all those announcements at the railway station of Brussels (in 2 or more languages every time) telling me and all the other frustrated passengers that our train is missing, late, not coming, stuck somewhere because of this and that... I'll bring the camera next time I'm out to show you what my little weekly Belgian intercity bike trips are like! I'd better go sleep now, because I've already consumed the buffer of the extra hour is added to this night because of the time change! Have you ever thought of the form of a smiley - it's more a frog smile than anything else, isn't it? : ) Now I live in my flat since almost 3 weeks and I really like it! I have two walls who are froggily green and a wonderful oak floor that still needs the finishing touch, but I'm starting to feel at home. |
